In teams across league the injury rates have taken a toll among receivers. Last Sunday the Cowboys and Broncos had ended the games with their top two receivers on the sidelines. Denver was also missing other starting players with Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil, and Knowshon Moreno to name a few in their victory against the Bengals. Tim Tebow found himself on the field not as quarterback but as slot receiver replacing Eddie Royal. Broncos won 24-22 against the Bengals.
Tampa Bay stunned the Vikings despite finishing the first half with a 17-0 deficit. The Buc's Legarrette Blount scored the winning 4-yard touchdown with only 31 seconds left in the game. During the second half the Bucs were able gain a total of 284 yards compared to 62 in the first half. Blount finished the game with 71 yards and 2 scores added to his record.
The Redskins were able top the Cardinals by a point after starting the fourth quarter with an eight point deficit. Grossman's 18-yard pass to Santana Moss brought the deficit within 2 points with only 5:17 remaining on the clock. Despite the failed two-point conversion, Graham Gano's 34- yard field goal brought in the win with 1:45 remaining. The Cardinals (1-1) have allowed 934 yards in two games.
Rangers' Michael Young reaches 200th Hit
Texas Rangers designated hitter, Michael Young, got his 200th hit at Oakland. Young now has 200 hits for his sixth season becoming the 17th player in history to do so. Earlier in the season, Young scored his 2,000th hit of his career against the Cleveland and the first of his team to reach this milestone. Young currently leads the Rangers with 40 doubles and 103 RBIs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat San Francisco 2-1 on Tuesday. This gave the Dodgers their first 20-game win in 21 years. The Giants now find themselves even closer to elimination from the NL West race. Dodgers starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw allowed six hits and one run and struck out six to go 5-0 against San Francisco. The loss brought an end to the Giants' eight game winning-streak and even further behind in the NL wild card race. Kershaw became the first pitcher since Ramon Martinez in 1990 to win 20 games with the Dodgers. Matt Kemp also got his 182 hit this season.
The Orioles topped the Red Sox 7-5 with help from Robert Andino's three-run double in the eighth inning. Mark Reynolds made two hits and two RBIs along with Nick Markakis' three hits and a one run for the Orioles. The Red Sox now find themselves six points behind New York in the AL East after the Yankees beat Tampa Bay.
The Yankees are now one win away from a postseason spot after beating the Devil Rays 5-0. Curtis Granderson drove in four runs and Ivan Nova pitched shutout into the eighth inning. The Yankees are now only one game away from securing their 16th postseason trip in 17 years. Despite a midseason demotion to the minors, Ivan Nova currently leads all major league rookies in wins.
