Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help people build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to try it out. I ended up purchasing and joining programs that would get me followers and programs that would actually advertise my products for me. In all, I ended up purchasing about eight different programs that would help me with all of this.
I purchased a program that would automatically follow people for me in an attempt to get them to follow me back. Then there was the program that would un-follow people who were not following me. This would allow me to follow different people again to get them to follow me. Along with some other programs that are not really worth mentioning, I bought a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. And when I started using all of these programs the results seemed to be amazing as they all did exactly what they said they would do. However, my excitement was quickly squashed when I realized that I wasn't making any money. I would post to my blog 10 times a day and those posts would be shown directly on Twitter just like they should. Then I found a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, hoping that the more posts I would have the more people who would see them.
Now let me tell you all about my results. In three years, I was able to build a Twitter following of almost ten thousand people. And while you may think that is great, just wait. Also in the past three years I have had over fifteen thousand of my blog posts that were advertising affiliate products added to my Twitter account. And that was the only advertising that I did for that blog, I decided not to even ping the posts to see exactly what Twitter could do for me. Well I found out, in the last 3 years I made 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I made $8.52 with Adsense. And that particular blog only gets about 2 to 4 visitors a day from Twitter.
In short, having almost ten thousand followers on Twitter using all these programs will not give you the results you want. In fact, in the last 3 years I have not even made enough money from that blog to pay for the Twitter programs that I had purchased. So in my personal opinion, while there may be good ways to advertise on Twitter, using the automatic software's are not the way to go.
