The kitchen is one of the most often used rooms in your home, but you wouldn't know it by the drab decoration. This room has always been a place of friends, food, and fellowship. Why not make your kitchen more inviting with a bit of colorful paint? If you're unsure of which colors to use, here are some tips.

Warm Hues Are Your Friends

While red is definitely a warm color, use it in small areas, or for an accent color. This is a very potent shade, and often will influence a person's emotional state over time. If you are concerned about the intensity, use the red along with a soft yellow or eggshell white to lessen its effect.
Other colors, like orange and yellow are no less warm, and offer a less intense choice. They often work will with traditional designs, such as country or Tuscan style kitchens. If your kitchen is a bit more modern, brighter shades might be a better match.

How to Use Cool Shades
The cooler colors like green or aquamarine also offer a fantastic source of relaxation in your kitchen. Plus, they work well with both modern and traditional designs.

The lighter examples of these shades also make wonderful ways to accent your kitchen. Be cautious, though, an overabundance of darker, cooler colors has been known to subdue vibrant and good feelings. Make sure to add some warmth into the mix as well. Things such as a soft brown table or a crisp white table cloth can be a fantastic way to spice things up.

How to Utilize Neutral Hues
Neutral colors in a kitchen needn't translate to safe or boring. Colors like antique white or sandalwood will often provide a better backdrop to many accessories. These hints of neutral colors are an excellent way to bring out the brightness and colors of the accents you pick.

Mixed Hues: The Often Overlooked Option
Just as your kitchen is a place to mix good times and conversations, the colors should be mixed together as well. Use your imagination to come up with something truly brilliant. People often use the idea of painting one wall a rich vibrant color such as red or yellow, and the other three walls a softer neutral color.
Another thing to do is use two different colors together. Some people like to use alternating warm and cool stripes on their walls. This example is fantastic for smaller kitchens, and the contrasting colors allow for visual interest.
